Personnel

The Marine Bureau is permanently staffed by 50 sworn police officers. An annual complement of police officers is temporarily assigned to the Marine Bureau from April 1 through November 1 each year.  Any police officer seeking assignment to the Marine Bureau must first have completed three years of police service in the Department and should possess a marine related qualification.  All candidates for assignment are interviewed by the supervisory staff and should have a satisfactory recommendation from their commanding officer. Once assigned to the Marine Bureau, police officers must attend the Standard Marine Patrol Vessel Operator Curriculum (SMPVOC), and must also participate in continuing operational and special marine enforcement related in-service training.
