Personnel
The Marine Bureau is permanently staffed by 46 sworn police officers. An annual complement of police officers is temporarily assigned to the bureau from April 1 through November 1 each year. Any police officer seeking assignment to the unit must first have completed three years of police service in the Department and should possess a marine related qualification. All candidates for assignment are interviewed by the supervisory staff and should have a satisfactory recommendation from their commanding officer. Once assigned to the unit, all newly assigned officers attend a Standard Marine Patrol Vessel Operator Curriculum (SMPVOC), and participate in continuing operational and special marine enforcement related in-service training.
